review 1: I greatly enjoyed this novel. Thank you so much Mom for recommending it to me. There were a lot of things that contributed to me liking it so much. First, it was very real without being mundane. I felt like somebody was telling me an experience from their life that deeply impacted them. I loved that it was so uplifting. The characters built a friendship and deeply connected while improving their lives. Another strong point was the way Aman was able to learn modern skills and embrace economic improvements without abandoning his own heritage. He still held on to his honesty, integrity, compassion, and work ethic. The main reason I loved this story so much is the way the two main characters connected. They were a man and a woman who had a deep connection without becoming phys... moreically romantic. They uplifted and sustained one another and provided comfort, developing a deep and lasting friendship. If only all of our relationships could be so edifying.
review 2: I chose to read this book because it was the first book in the "Greek Village Series" by Sara Alexi, and I was intrigued by the second book in the series. So I went back to read this one first.I chose a five star rating because the writing is clear, beautiful, and probes deeply into the hearts and souls of the two main characters, Aaman and Juliet. Sara writes with breathtaking descriptions of the Greek countryside, the small village, and takes her readers right into the settings. I could see the vibrant colors, smell the flowers, the food, the smells of the village, and practically feel the dust on my teeth!Aaman is a man with dreams, but has no idea how to make these dreams come true. His wife had a vision of how to achieve them, and he has been away from home long enough now that her vision is fading. Juliet has given up on her dreams, and is living life by following whims, like the one that brings her to this old cottage in a tiny village out in the middle of nowhere in Greece. Her friends and family are dismayed with her choice, but she hasn't the ability to make another choice of what to do with her life. These unlikely people come together when Juliet hires Aaman to work in her garden, and their lives begin to take a shape and meaning neither could have anticipated.I love the way Sara brings these characters to life, and how she draws us into really caring about what happens to each of them. This is a beautiful story of hope and what one person can achieve if someone else believes in them. less
