review 1: This was a book I won through goodreads.I felt the book gave some good hints to help students better cope with high school. I have worked in a poor rural district for two decades and found that many of the points made in the book are the same ones I have been repeating to my own students every year. I am sure I will use some of the research in this book to help reinforce the concepts.I think this is a good book for students looking to get the most out of high school with aspirations to continue their education.
review 2: 10 Things I Wish I Knew in High School is an earnest and insightful book, one that combines the author’s advice, gained from experience as a student and young, successful professional, and data pertaining to educational and professional suc
... morecess. Galimore uses data on a wide range of topics that concern modern high school and college students, including peer and social pressure, testing, college or professional preparedness to create a big picture look at what will have a profound effect on their success and what is inconsequential. She then fleshes out these topics by offering personal experience and thoughtful observation. This combination makes the book much more relatable and powerful.Galimore describes herself as an average student, who found success by being proactive. She found educational opportunities that suited her interests and talents, and eventually a profession that suited her life. In this book, she details how other students can take charge of their education, through informed decisions, effective planning, and the correct attitude. I think that this is a very helpful book, one that gives reasonable advice and tips on how to take charge of your education, create long term goals, and build the skills and attitude to achieve success. less
