review 1: I'm glad I read this one so close to Pekar's Not the Israel My Parents Promised Me. Both are similar in that they're thoughtful considerations of the state of Israel and each author's (Jewish American) relationship to it. Pekar's is more overtly historical and expository, similar in nature to some of his other books. Glidden's approach sharply differs from Perkar's in at least two ways. First, How to Understand Israel in 60 Days or Less is more of a story. Glidden recounts her birthright trip experiences, so the book is more of a narrative. (Not the Israel is more of a political statement than it is a story.) Also, Glidden writes from an "on the ground" perspective. She actually visited Israel and informs or tests her attitudes toward the Jewish state from that context. Ad... moremittedly, Pekar never visited Israel and so speaks as an outsider. This doesn't take anything away from Not the Israel My Parents Promised Me or from Pekar's opinions and arguments. But Glidden comes to her assessment from an entirely different angle. Plus, it ends ambiguously, which I very much appreciate.

Good book to understand the current situation in Israel quickly and without complications.

really interesting. I especially like when she illustrated what was going on in her head.
