review 1: I will admit that once I hit book 2, I skimmed a lot. Maybe I've been spoiled by some phenomenal BDSM authors, because this was no where near as well written as other books I've read. In fact, the BDSM was pretty lukewarm. And repetitive. Just tying someone up doesn't not necessarily constitute BDSM. While the author attempting to show a power exchange between Damon and Alayna, she missed the mark. I didn't really care about either character, and I swear if Damon said Alayna was "maddening" just one more time, I was going to lose my sh*t. The books were just ok and while I can't say I'd necessarily recommend them, I'd consider trying something else by this new to me author.
review 2: Right from the beginning, I was pulled into the plot. Alayna, a romance write
... morer, reluctantly heads to NYC to take part in the wedding of her long-time friend Felicia. Alayna listens with dread, when her friend gushes about one of the guys who has been invited by her soon-to-be husband. Yeah, that's all Alayna needs, her friend playing matchmaker again! Damon, a college friend of Seth; soon to be married to Felicia has insisted he be part of his wedding celebration. Just what he needs! He doesn't do romance and relationships. When Alayna and Damon meet, it begins a journey of discovery for both of them.I love the fact that we get both POV's throughout this trilogy. Equally, I like the balance of the storyline. Both characters have their insecurities and secrets. Damon is an enigma; hiding a side of himself he shut from his own mind a long time ago. Alayna appears to be meek and naïve, but is in fact riddled with low self esteem and inexperience, brought on by the devastating break up of a seven year relationship. Both are drawn to each other like powerful magnets; afraid of the consequences when they give in to new needs and desires. Taking risks and shifting personal boundaries for themselves as well as each other.I have a love/hate relationship with novella serials. I much prefer to read them when a series is complete, just as I have with this trilogy. However, in this instance, I may have enjoyed the overall experience if I'd stopped and paused after each novella. By the time I got to #3 - Keep Me, I wanted to skip the sex scenes and continue with the story. Less is definitely more in this case.3½ ✰'s - arc received in exchange for an honest review less
