review 1: This is perhaps the best book about war that I've ever read. It's definitely on par with Sebastian Junger's WAR, and Parnell's take on his role, his men, and the events he faced in Afghanistan is fascinating and enlightening. I've always had a ton of respect for soldiers, but this book took that respect up an additional notch. The writing is excellent, the "story" is riveting, and the characterization is better than the character building in most novels. Highly recommended!
