review 1: Strub's memoir of his life between 1976 and 1990 (or so) is fascinating, well-written and a great contribution to the history of this period. Another great view of ACT UP adding to Duberman's biography of Mike Callen, Gould's book on ACT UP and a few other recent books. I loved the history of POZ and Strub's reflections on fundraising. Recommended for folks interested in LGBT history and AIDS history.
review 2: A wonderful memoir that brought tears as I remembered the sadness of the 80s and early 90s when so many people lost their lives. But more important was reading again of their bravery in organizing, protesting and by their actions, forcing a disinterested government (and medical community) to action. So many lively and lovely lives would have been spare
... mored if not for the apathy and attitudes of those including our then president Reagan. A book worth reading but be prepared to both cry and be enraged. less
