review 1: This is my first encounter with Christian Lit. If it is any kind of example of the norm, it will be my last encounter. This book is filled with too good to be true people, an incredibly naive main character, and the mention of prayer at least five times a page. Now, I am all for prayer. I don't know if I have ever met anyone who thinks of nothing else or who cannot make any decision in life without going on and on about it though. To make matters worse, this book boasts mostly one dimensional characters (I don't think I really grew to care for any of them), a main character who is so naive I am surprised she survived the trip down the street let alone to another city, and a handful of people that are just too good to be true - not because they are good but because they merel... morey are there to make Claire's life easier without requiring her to do any of the heavy lifting or thinking.I found this book highly unrealistic & not in a fun escapist kind of way but in a rolling my eyes every few pages kind of way. It got one star because Goodreads does not allow halves.
review 2: I finished this book because it was a fluffy, easy read and sometimes I feel like reading drivel just for the snark material. There were so many things wrong with Delivered with Love that I'm not sure where to start. Instead of going into a rant, I'll just make a list of the flaws.1. Stupid, naive main character.2. Too many coincidences. Everyone she met (we're talking strangers) were somehow connected and of course... all Christians.3. A cheesy romance. I tried to like it, but... ugh.4. Preachy faith message. Actually, it wasn't too bad until the last few chapters, then it was like a sermon.5. Predictable plot. I guessed every "twist" in the story.6. Weak dialogue.7. Humor that wasn't funny.8. And lastly, my biggest issue with the story. Claire, the MC, trusts every stranger she meets. Like, "Little girl, do you want to come home with me in my creepy red van? I have candy!" And she's all, "Golly, what a nice man!!!" Seriously, her stupidity was overwhelming. In real life, she probably would've been raped, murdered, or kidnapped before the story was over. While I think God watches over us, he also gave us a brain for a reason!I debated between giving it two or three stars because it's not the worst book I've ever read. But to me, three stars means, "An OK read that I enjoyed. Not amazing, but good." And Delivered with Love doesn't meet that standard, so two stars it is. less
