review 1: Powerful Memoir of Graphic Proportions!Shock would be a gross understatement to describe my feelings after reading this memoir by Somaly Man. Man is a tenacious and tireless humanitarian who fights to save young girls sold into the bowels of hell in the sex trafficking business in and around . Like her own early experience etched permanently into her senses, she chronicles the tortured existence of the young girls unwillingly chained to a tortuous life in a brothel. Mam establishes havens in Cambodia and the surrounding countries. She reveals her courage and heart in this astonishing memoir as she bears witness to her own savage treatment while held to perform against her will. review 2: See Petra X's review. I'm with her.I was moved and inspired when I read this. I was sorry to hear in July 2014 that the author made up a lot of her alleged "true story." Still, it's a powerful story and can be read as a factionalized composite of some girls' experience. After I heard about the fabrication, I posted a note on Facebook about my disappointment. A Facebook friend who lives in Vietnam relayed that Mam's organization really does very good, important work. So I'm still donating my monthly mite. less
