review 1: The story begins with the hero, Gavyn, running for his life from Trevor and it doesn't stop for 350 pages. The characters spend so much time reacting to what's happening we don't know much about their stories or backgrounds. Then after 150 pages, there is a big info dump of Djinn history. But still, nothing to make me connect with or care about any of the characters. Nothing really new, nothing to make it worth my boredom.
review 2: Gripping action, but with a price. The book seems to rush through all the action, not a single moment to catch your breath.Uncooperative partner is a known literary trope, but Ian was probably the most "likable" and pure of the kind. ... moreuality.There wasn't enough back-story to Gavyn to let me like him, and he had way too much inner-snappy-dialogue in a chase that should've gotten to him at some point, but I'm interested enough to read more. less
