review 1: Was given this by a friend and encouraged to give it a go and I must admit it wasn't too bad (damn you Elaine...I'm giving a half decent review to chick-lit!!). Yes, much of the story was predictable and rather corny, but I didn't want to throttle all of the characters (only some of them and only some of the time so much better than normal!) which is often what happens when I read books from this genre. Okay this isn't going to win any prizes for original story line or anything but it was a nice chilled out read that didn't require much mental exercise to follow, so not bad, not bad at all.
review 2: Sophie Hart brings us The Naughty Girls Book Club, which focuses on the erotica genre. While the book itself is the furthest away from erotica, it brings to the
... more story the phenomena that was seen when Fifty Shades of Gray hit it big and brought erotica to the mainstream.Estelle is living her dream of owning a coffee shop and bakery, but business isn't great. Thinking through ideas, she decides to start a book club in the hopes that it kick starts on buzz about her little coffee shop. The club decides to start reading an erotica book and from there sticks with the genre. The book is more about the group's relationship and their different paths in finding romance. It reminded me of the movies Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve in which a set of characters are connected, but the story follows their paths individually.Hart has done a good job with this book. It was an easy read and enjoyable. I'm not giving it the highest rating for a few reasons. While enjoyable, it didn't grab my attention in a way that would keep me up all night to read the book and it actually took me a while to read it. Also, the writer is from England and there is alot of British slang and phrases used throughout. For the most part it’s easy to follow and understand the intent, but when describing a persons dress, "smart" is the most common adjective and by the end I was really hoping for another word. less
