review 1: This is a start up book, for both the series and the author. I've read more complete, more complex, more interesting, but I'm going to give the series a try. True, I figured out who the murderer was before the second death, but I enjoyed the character development. Except... I'm also reading another series about a young woman who quits her upwardly bound life to move home and take care of a single parent in distress, similar even to the point of living on the farm. In both books, the romantic lead is a journalist and from true life experience, I gotta be honest... most journalists aren't all that. These fictional heroines are incredibly lucky in a) there still being a print media willing to pay people for stories and b) a journalist possible romantic partner without a drink... moreing problem. I look forward to more recipes and some further character development, hopefully by the third book.
review 2: This book had some good points in that it didn't take the whole hippie farm seriously, but it was bland and boring in most parts. The characters were so generic and I never even did figure out the age of the protaganist. I'm assuming she was in her 30's but really, she could have been any age. The murderer really wasn't believable and overall the book seemed written to fit a formula. Cozy mysteries these days are really lacking in originality. the publishers are trying to make up for that by having them fit a theme, but it's not working. less
