review 1: Read this book to my reading buddies and they loved it. This book is often seen as companion series to the Diary of A Wimpy Kid series; it is written in the same style. There are many pictures on each page and he font is bigger and seems handwritten. This book is supposed to represent a journal much like the diary feel of Wimpy Kid. All the illustrations are hand-drawn and the book reads with a certain sense of humor. The main character has this old school detective vibe and is sort of silly, but reluctant readers eat up the silly humor and easy to follow story. The story uses flash forwards and daydreams that may be a little misconstruing; it is not always obvious that the character is daydreaming and that makes it a little confusing, especially as a read aloud. Other tha... moret that this was a book my buddies thoroughly enjoyed.
review 2: I read this on recommendation from one of my students. Some parts are funny, but there are a few pop culture references children likely won't understand. I also kept waiting for the reveal that Timmy had ADHD or Asperger's. He's clearly intelligent and imaginative, but also VERY unfocused, academically unmotivated, and rude to his friends. I'm intrigued enough to read the next book, but I hope Timmy's interactions with his classmates aren't so negative. less

This book annoyed me for the first half, but I'm pretty sure that was the intent. Finishes nicely.
