review 1: Was the Battle of Hastings a French victory? William the Conqueror was Norman and hated the French. Were the Brits really responsible for the death of Joan of Arc? The French sentenced her to death for wearing trousers. Was the guillotine a French invention? This book looks at what has really been going on since 1066. Really entertaining and funny, once started it's extremely difficult to put down. Behind the sarcasm and irony, though, there is a lot of historical information packed into this book.
review 2: Enjoyable, well-written, well-researched and full of interesting factoids or snippets of history that could leave you feeling both amused and a little bit more educated. Ideal to dip into chapter by chapter. As an unabashed Francophile, was pleased to find
... more that the many French contributions or achievements or witty quotes also get their fair spot in the limelight. For example, "A man who speaks 3 languages is trilingual. A man who speaks 2 languages is bilingual. A man who speaks 1 language is English" Claude Gagnière less

Readable but essentially silly.
