review 1: I wanted to read this book because I've been listening to Guns music more and more recently and wanted a more in depth look into their journey to success. This is exactly what I got from this book. However I do feel like Stephen Davis relies too much of his information on interviews. I felt like page after page was just the scripts of interviews, which made the book verge on the edge of dullness at times. But being said I stuck with it and I'm really glad I did. This is not the kind of book that will have you reeling back to read it time and time again, partly because It's just pure facts(supposedly) and information about their road to fame. But if you want to get to know not only their personalities but their troubles, reckless behaviour and emphasis on Axl's shitty behav... moreiour, then please, do give this book a go.
review 2: I didn't think a book about Guns N' Roses could possibly be boring. I was wrong.Basically, this is 400 pages of descriptions of show that GNR have played throughout the years. Song-for-song descriptions. The author is very repetitive (if I ever hear the name 'Bo Diddley' used to describe 'Mr Brownstone' again, I will destroy something), and the book is largely made up of his own opinions about the band, opinions that seem to change as quickly as Axl Rose's mood. One chapter, it is hero worship, the other he's writing about how much the GNR sucked.Also, large parts of Watch You Bleed is just copy-pasted interviews from magazines and websites.I would have liked to see the book go a bit more in-depth, and maybe focusing on a certain era of GNR. As it is, half the book is centered on the years before they got a record contract, and the rest is a bit of a mess. less
