Famed explorer Marco Polo is best known for his travels and extensive chronicling of what he witnessed, and was instrumental in expanding trade routes into Asia in what is now called the Silk Road, a massive network of traders stretching over Eastern Europe, Egypt, China, Somalia, India, China, and Persia. He died at the age of 70 following an illness.
