review 1: This book makes for some fun, light reading. It's written in a casual, candid tone as if Stephen Pearcy is right there in the room with you while he tells you his story. The book is aptly titled because Pearcy has little interest in discussing anything other than his over-indulgences in life. Clearly he thinks he's god's gift to women (he even includes several testimonials from his associates over the years to corroborate how "irresistible" the ladies found him. Oddly enough these associates are all men.) This memoir is more of a brag-fest than anything else. Pearcy has matured over the years but his desire to impress hasn't subsided with age.If you're curious about his creative process and how he went about creating his vast body of work, you'll be disappointed. He sheds a... morelmost no light on his songwriting or creativity. Whenever it was time for Ratt to release a new album, apparently the songs were just "there." But he's glad to devote paragraph after paragraph on how he inserted a condom into a passed-out groupie's asshole so she would wake up thinking she just had anal sex. Most disappointing is that Pearcy totally left out the period in the early to mid-2000s when he was fighting his former band mates over the usage of the Ratt name. During that time there were two bands calling themselves Ratt, one with Pearcy and one with Blotzer and DeMartini. He only mentions the lawsuits in passing and provides no detail. Pearcy lost the suit so maybe he's still bitter over that and refused to discuss it in the book. This would have made for a great chapter. A lost opportunity.Despite all my misgivings I still enjoyed the book because I love reading about rock n roll and the lifestyle. I just wish there was a little more substance to it than, "I did a lot of drugs and had a lot of sex."
review 2: Not a bad read. I mostly knew RATT from the song "Round and Round". I've been into 80s memoirs, and it was an interesting read to hear Stephen's perspective on the combination of Fame and Rock-n-Roll. Lots of mentions of the other bands he hung out with like Van Halen and Motely Crue. Plus, a lot of how he struggled with drug usage. The bad boy made famous ends on a positive note, though not all survive the journey. Not a bad read if you enjoy reliving some heavy metal history. less

good easy read - typical sex, drugs, and rock -n- roll excesses of the 1980s
