This is one that I read on Christmas day. In between the turkey and the sherry trifle.
Well not exactly, but it could almost have been that quick.
In fact, this book is so short that several of Dylan’s songs almost match it for word count.
In it, Dylan cites early musical influences Buddy Holly and Leadbelly, and three literary works from his schooldays – Moby Dick, All Quiet on the Western Front and the Odyssey.
I’m a big Dylan fan so I won’t slag this Nobel Lecture speech too much – except to say that in talking about how Moby Dick influenced him, the New York Times review suggested that the great man’s analysis of Moby Dick was ‘appropriated from the study-guide website Spark Notes’.
Oh, Bobby.
