review 1: American Literature: Summer Reading AssignmentHaving just one parent that died when you were young can be diificult Luna age fourteen going to fifteen had two parents, and both were famous. Luna's mother was a model and her father is a movie director. While Luna is at camp she finds out that her mother died. her mother's death was caused by a hit of a taxi while accmpanied with a "freind". When Luna turns fifteen she decides to go to her mothers studio. Luna sees her mother's phone, and that she has seven messages. These seven messages lead Luna to the real cause of her mother's death. The most important moment is when Luna finds out that her mother is not what she seemed to be. To Luna her parents were perfect, she never saw any fights between them. By this Luna is frust... morerated with her mother. She wants to talk to her, about her secret feelings that she never showed. "Girls aren't supposed to think about death, but it feels like a heavy backpack." (pg.164) Luna has to deal with what her mother has done, she hurt her father and her. That heavy backpack represents all the secrets and she has to keep them away from her younger brother Tile. Her father tells her, knowing what her mother did to him "Moon, I think you should forgive and forget." (pg.226) This is important because Luna forgives her mother and father. She continues with her life and does what she loves that is photography. The moral of this text is that you should forgive, and move forward . Luna's father knew what her mother did to him was wrong, but he forgave her. Luna started with photography and little by little was being successful. You Have Seven Messages by Stewart Lewis is about suspense. There are many clues that bring Luna to her real mother's death. Luna's father had seen how the mother was hit by a car. 'He was there . He watched her die."(pg.209) You Have Seven Messages is a story where " The way unexpected things go together. How stuff in the world can be...mismatched...but still graceful." (pg. 178)
review 2: The mixed feelings I have about this book are infinite. Let me explain ... in about five-thousand reasons:1. Luna -1Positives: Her age represents the YA genre well and Lewis was accurate in a few of the things she experiences.Negatives: BUT ... this is not at all how a 15-year-old girl is. She would be wearing a bra by now, even if her mother died a year ago, she would have started by then. Oliver being the "only guy" she has her eye on. Yeah, I don't know about that.2. Oliver and Luna -.5Positives: YA requires romance even if it's very minimal. Do not argue this with me.Negatives: Okay, Oliver wouldn't have fallen for her so quickly. Does anyone else find it strange how soon he kissed her since they BARELY talked at all at that point. This was just a little unrealistic.3. What You Expect -.5Negatives: To add a positives section here, it would just not be right. I expected a really mysterious book built into a huge climax. NOPE. The Italy and France thing wasn't needed either. If they are trying to relate this back at all what the book is really supposed to be about, it's not really working.4. Realistic? No. -1I'm not even creating a section for this. YES, I know kids like this obviously exist, but if you mix in Luna's background with the tragedy thing, Oliver, and her status at school, it does not add up correctly. It's just ... unrealistic!- And just one more point: They would've looked for and found that cellphone WAY under a year!5. Speed +/-0Positives: I didn't find myself dragging my feet.Negatives: If I ever skipped a paragraph, I apparently also skipped a day.I hate to be so judgmental of this book because part of me really liked it, but let's face it guys writing in a girl's POV just does not work out well - or at all. If this book was revised to all the previous things I've said, it would have gotten at least 3 stars. The summary mislead me into believing this was a really mysterious, climatic book. Not the case at all! If they simply fixed the summary, this book would at least have a 0.5, but sadly Lewis you must settle for 0. Even though the pace even goes at a good speed, it's like TOO fast, which is a first. Boys stick to boys, believe me, sometimes us girls would rather like to know every once in a while how your abnormal species actually thinks, not how you think ours does.Due to the way Goodreads works, I must mark this work as 1 star instead of 0. less
