review 1: Of course I had to read this when I saw where it was set. The Isle of Wight is pretty much a second home to me, and books set there are an insta-read. Unfortunately, this wasn't as good as it had hoped. I'm not a massive fan of insta-love stories and the relationship in this just got too serious too fast. I didn't dislike the book or characters, persay, but the entire relationship between Liam and Sam, and the overly-quick acceptance of Liam into Sam's family, was just a bit too much. The island setting was nice, but it felt a bit generic, it could have been set anywhere, really. And knowing the island so well, a couple of timing errors on how long it took to get somewhere stood out - nitpicky perhaps but it threw me out of the story a little.
review 2: Not at
... moreall bad. Liam and Sam form a very quick relationship, which, having formed a long lasting relationship with someone in the span of a few weeks, I understand. I really liked the contrast between Liam and Sam's enduring love and Sam's grandmother's insta-relationships that lasted a few months. While I thought Sam was far too willing to make a life long commitment after a few days, the story had other redeeming factors. Liam's constant worry over being watched and judged showed a nice character progression through the book, but there were moments of 'hate da gay' awkwardness that were handled clumsily, like the hotel Liam stayed at. I can't imagine a hotel staying in business that allowed maids to not only disrupt guests but then have those guests thrown out. The narrator for the audiobook needs to be retired to other genres. He sounds like a grandfather, which is not who I want to hear reading smut, big no on that, and the accents were terrible. Save your audiobook money for something better and get the kindle. Given the problems, the book was a pleasant diversion. less
