review 1: I LOVED THIS COUPLE IAIN AND PAGE!!Laird Iain MacKinnon and Page are a very well matched couple. The story starts out with Iain going to get his kidnapped 6yr. old son Malcom. Iain kidnaps Page the Earls daughter who is holding Malcom to send to the English court. FitzSimom the Earl doesn't want his daughter back. The Earl FitzSimon's doesn't care about her at all. After Iain gets his son back he is told to keep Page or FitzSimon will kill her, is own daughter. He hates her that much. Iain's first wife and Malcom's mother commits suicide right after Malcom's birth. Their is a villain in this story. I am not telling, but you will know quickly enough while reading. However the villain is behind Malcom's kidnapping and behind his mothers suicide. The love story between Page... more and Iain is pretty believable becasue they are both wounded hearts. They are a very sensual and passionate couple when they finally get together. The story is fast paced and the characters are pretty funny at times. I couldn't stop reading. So why 4 stars instead of 5. Well because the ending was rushed and none of the plots lines were really flushed out. Like what did the Villain do to get Mairi, Iain's wife to get her to commit suicide? Who was the villains father? We know who the mother is but not the father. The story moves very fast, but in doing that the plot lines get lost. I still couldn't stop reading and I did enjoy the book a lot, despite the flaws. I hope the next one Lyon's Gift is better orchestrated. This book is free on Amazon now so I highly recommend you read it. For a Freebie it's very good and worth your reading time.
review 2: Enjoyable romp through medieval Scotland full of large highland warriors, beautiful Scottish maidens, exploitive lairds, and big castles. Well written. Although it follows the usual highland romance format, (the tough Scottish Laird protecting the little Scottish maiden--who happens to be tougher than either of them realize! The characters are likable, and you are happy to see their antagonism grow into love. Entertaining read--would recommend to anyone who likes to read medieval romances. less

Not great, but very good. Has mystery and Romance with surprises. Overall, it kept my attention.

Decent story if you overlook all the historical inaccuracies.
