review 1: I'll admit that the fact it takes place in Canada is a little off-putting. I don't do well with books that aren't written about America; there's just something about the foreign language that makes it hard to connect with. That being said, I thought the book was good, although a little ridiculous. The circumstance at the beginning of the book was believable but then it just became unreal like an episode of Maury. You have these huge obstacles for the main character who seems like an asshole, and then they get so neatly resolved. Overall, the book was fine but a little to dramatic and then anti-climatic for my taste. Too unbelievable and Canadian.
review 2: Got to page 50 and was feeling nothing from the story. The main character Cole says things that don't feel
... more authentic to a teenaged male at all and the relationships feel stiff and forced. Then I got to page 80 and realized that a large part of the story is Cole remembering his mother's battle with cancer and the after effects of her death. That's just not a topic I can read about right now in my life so I'm putting this one down. less

The sloppy lives of all the characters seemed very real.
