review 1: I was intrigued at the beginning and thought the two main characters, Drako and Rin, had potential to develop. Unfortunately, they never really did. Their relationship seems odd, especially when Rin turns the tables and dominates Drako to satisfy a somewhat contorted plot point. The man described so far would never put himself in a vulnerable position. And then there was the "Then I woke up and realized that it was just a dream" moment when all of a sudden Drako's magic powers, that we don't know about until page 252, emerge and save the day.It was a shame, because there were many scenes I enjoyed reading and felt the writing flowed well. But character and plot development don't make it for me.
review 2: There were too many scenes “told” and not properly b
... moreuilt up or “shown.” – just things thrown in.REVIEWER’S OPINION:This is not a well done story. Too many characters introduced but not fleshed out. There were two bad guys. What was going on with them was unclear. On hindsight, I’m wondering if they were the same person. I don’t know. Some things about Lei were vague and unfinished. Why was she acting depressed? Did she know Bob from before? How did she get to his location? Apparently Lei had seen Rin at a dungeon party and could have tried to get Rin’s attention. Why didn’t she? Rin had been searching for her for a long time. At the end, one character all of a sudden has a paranormal ability to save the day. This was thrown in. There was nothing paranormal about anyone throughout the story (other than the existence of a magic object).Oh, and we have typical heroine stupidity. Drako tells Rin to stay in the car where she will be safe. But as soon as she sees that there are bad guys with guns shooting at good guys. She decides she must help. So she runs into the middle of it, with no weapon whatsoever. Of course a bad guy grabs her and drives away with her.As far as romance goes, it wasn’t the best formula. After marriage Drako continues going to his club to play with submissives, which turns him on. Then he goes home to have quickie sex with his wife, and then he leaves her to sleep in his own room. I suppose the story is that he changes his mind later. But it wasn’t good for me.I see this story as something to go with the Dom scenes. It may be ok for those wanting to read about Dom/sub sex. But I prefer having a good story to go with the erotic stuff. The sex scenes include bondage, public displays, sex toys, and rear door activity. It’s explicit.STORY BRIEF:Drako and his two brothers must guard The Secret, power in a canister. Their family has guarded this for hundreds or thousands of years. Their father recently died. Just before he died he said all three of them must marry to have offspring to carry on the mission. The three guys are Doms and spend lots of time at dungeon clubs binding up and causing pain to submissives. Drako meets Rin and decides to marry her. He tells her he will have sex with her, but he needs to continue playing with other submissives at the clubs. She agrees because she needs $50,000 to buy her sister’s freedom. Her sister was sold into sex slavery by the mother. So they marry. Meanwhile a bad guy knows about The Secret and plans to get it.DATA:Story length: 268 pages. Swearing language: strong. Sexual language: strong/erotic. Number of sex scenes: 9. Estimated number of sex scene pages: 50. Setting: current day Detroit, Michigan, and Toledo, Ohio. Copyright: 2011. Genre: erotic paranormal romance. less
