review 1: It's been a while since I read this book, so this review will not be the biggest or most accurate review you'll ever read. Anyway, I loved this book. Was it completely ridiculous? Yes! Was te romance crazy fast and a little weird? (By weird I mean really weird. I mean, if I guy told me that he was leaking blue poison from his fingers because he likes you so much, I would probably back away slowly, not breaking eyecontact and when reaching the door, run as fast and far away as I can. Oh that pesky selfpreservation.) Did they fall in love ridiculously fast? Of course they did, its a 280 page teen romance, what do you expect? But did I love it! Oh I did.
review 2: Valor and I got off to a rough start. I loved the idea of the story (Handsome gargoyles? Yes please!)
... more but when I actually started, I was unimpressed with the writing style. It needed some editing. There were a few missing words here and there, and small grammatical mistakes. Also, I'm not sure if the author thought she could get away with it because she was writing from a teenager's POV, but she used "like" way too much. For example, a cliff was like a hundred feet high. The neighbor was cutting down like all the trees on his property. Valor was like the sexiest thing evar. You get the idea. It just made the writing sound juvenile.Once I started getting into the story, though, I really liked it. I'm not entirely sure why. It did have some elements that I just hate. Insta-love was super instant. Many parts of the storyline weren't fleshed out well. Not enough detail went into events. MacKenzie's two friends have potential gargoyle love prospects out of the blue. Mackenzie is totes in love with Valor 4 ever and she's only known him a week. And somehow I managed to get past all that and love the story anyway. It could very well be because of the gargoyles themselves. I admit I can never remember Defiance or his personality, but all the other gargoyles are fun and unique. Havoc loves fashion and cooking. Dare is the one with the tragic past. Victor is the prettyboy. I love their individual personalities and the way they interact with each other. Also, Dare is the most precious thing. The story was a quick, easy read. It was one of those books that, when you're not reading it, you're trying to get back to it. It reads very much like a Twilight novel, just with worse editing. Supernatural family in a small, wooded town lets a human girl into their circle, human girl and one of the supernatural creatures fall in love, other supernatural creature villains complicate things, etc. It may not be a literary masterpiece, but as soon as I finished Valor I immediately bought the sequel, Dare, so that should say something! less
