review 1: I'd have to say I was disappointed in this book...it wasn't what I expected. There were a lot of typos and too much unnecessary detail that just made it confusing sometimes. I loved being able to look at the author's blog afterward and see pictures and did laugh at some parts. I didn't appreciate the author's perspective on women...but maybe he was just trying to be funny. I did like that he was caring toward the animals and admired his bravery...or stupidity it seems in most cases. :/ But that was entertaining.
review 2: A young man has adventures volunteering to care for confiscated exotic "pets" in Ecuador. Really enjoyed the adventures, and the book is occasionally touchingly heartfelt and laugh out loud funny -- the adventures themselves bear reading again
... moreand again, however, a 5-star review is a 3 because of the grammar/spelling issues mentioned by some other reviewers... as well because some of the animals in the book get more description of personality than any of the women in it. Just couldn't get past that, though I hesitate to say it. In a similar vein, but focused more on the action than the personality of the teller, is "Whatever You Do, Don't Run" by Peter Allison, which I can't recommend enough. Overall a worthwhile read for someone daydreaming about warm places in do or die -- or laugh -- situations. less
