review 1: What an inspiring woman Turia Pitt is, as are all the athletes and rescuers involved that day, and those surrounding Turia with love and support. While not always perfectly written, this book is both a record of an amazing ongoing journey, educational, and a sad indictment on the lengths some will go to to avoid taking on any responsibility for the disastrous consequences of their neglectful race planning.
review 2: This was a great book. I read it very quickly in a few days. I was easily drawn into the tragic circumstances that Turia finds herself in when she is caught in a bush fire while running an ultra marathon in West Australia. Her determination to overcome what seem to be insurmountable challenges is truly remarkable. Im sure in similar circumstances I ... morewould just curl up in bed and feel sorry for myself. Her courage in the face of almost insurmountable adversity is a real inspiration. An interesting aside is that it was announced on the news yesterday that she has won damages from the organisation that allowed the race to go ahead in an area where bushfires were occurring, Race The Planet. less
