review 1: A book introduced to me by a creative, artistic friend - I was first intrigued by the watercolor art flowing through these pages. The basic premise is a woman ever-traveling, decides one day to stop traveling and stay put for an entire year. She is always going some other place to see some enticing attraction. With a conviction to stay put, she opens her eyes to the beauty that is every day. I love this book because it so intricately paints a picture of normalcy. Her daily paintings are ones of the different kinds of mud, rain, or snow. She paints lost mittens collected after a snowstorm. She paints the sunset, the sunrise, varying types of birds. She writes about the ordinary, the peculiar, and the profound. The book is a neat challenge to let your neighborhood open up it... mores wonders to you. Let your eyes rest upon the exquisite sitting outside your windowsill. To slow down and allow your senses to truly appreciate the present.
review 2: After twenty years of wandering around Europe and Africa, Vivian Swift settled down on Long Island Sound. When Wanderers Cease to Roam combines watercolor paintings, collage and journal entries to document her time "staying put." There are cats and flowers and tea cups and picket fences. If you don't like those things, you probably won't like this.Sometimes I think it would be fun to live in a tiny little adorable town and have a little cottage with a picket fence and a pretty garden, but then I remember that I hate being outside. I should just have a condo with a picture of a pretty garden on the wall.I would still be okay with the rest of Vivian Swift's life, though. I could collect old china and have enough cats that the neighbors kids refer to me as the "cat lady" and when I walk to the store with a luggage cart everyone knows it's cat food day. I could knit things instead of gardening. less

You don't read this book you sip it slowly like a cup of tea on a cool rainy day.
