review 1: I came at this book with very little art knowledge and an open mind. Gompertz writes thoroughly and with a sense of humor that makes this book both comprehensive and comprehendible. A fantastic introduction to modern art history and its characters - the book does not attempt to dive tremendously deep into any one movement or artist, but instead provides a who's-who and a best-hits. Having read this, I feel inspired to learn even more and to jump into conversations that were previously outside my area. The London Underground map which charts the books' subjects is a stroke of inspiration by itself.

Agora poderei fazer bonito quando vir uma pilha de tijolos no museu!Recomendo fortemente ler esse livro acompanhado de internet para pesquisar as diversas obras mencionadas. Apesar de 2 encartes coloridos e várias reproduções preto e branco, além das descrições do autor, faz muita diferença olhar para a obra enquanto digere-se o comentário. less
