review 1: This book was a very funny collection of incidents of the author's life. The incidents personalize the author and her religion Islam. I found myself relating to her stories as a mother and a member of a Lutheran congregation--incidents that may be in different circumstances but are so similar to circumstances in my own life. A book so much needed in this day of them and us where in reality it is just us. At times the author appeared a very scattered, unorganized yet in real life she is very accomplished, driven and well spoken (heard her speak at my church after 911). If you need some light reading during the holiday season this is the book to select.
review 2: Fun, easy to read, a bit silly at times; Zarqa provides excellent insights into the beliefs and
... more practices of Islam (though you may learn more than you care to about bathroom hygiene). I found the detailed description of the Hajj particularly enlightening and fascinating. The chapter on her reactions to the World Trade Center attack (9/11) is particularly moving (and funny). The author is the creator of the television series "Little Mosque on the Prairies" and the tone of silliness while dealing with real issues found in that series is replicated in the book. An easy but worthwhile read for anyone wanting to have fun while learning what it's like to be a Muslim in Canada. less

An amusing tale of life as a Muslim child and woman in a mostly non Muslim setting.
