review 1: Mesmerizing biography of a remarkable figure in American and world history. I was surprised to learn many facts about this man: his religious zeal, his sense of honor, his romantic side, his bitter and vicious side, his acceptance of a noble banner and cause, and his stroke suffered while in office and hidden from the American people. He was venerated and idealized, and he lived in a momentous time. His sense of honor and duty made him lead the country to honorable and responsible stances in the world, and his personal vindictiveness kept him isolated from many who would be his friend. The author uses chapter titles like "Passion" and "Providence" - with biblical verses - to describe periods in Wilson's life: clever and appropriate. Great read!

... moreping with my WWI theme, I thought I'd read a book on the American President who presided over the war, Woodrow Wilson. I found A. Scott Berg's biography to be excellent. Wilson was a scholar who entered politics later in life. His lists of accomplishment's were quite lengthy yet he never quite got over the disappointment of the failure of the League of Nations to pass the U.S. Congress (due to the Republican's lead by Henry Cabot Lodge). Wilson was a President who thought the government should be focused on people not property and made sure that his actions followed his convictions. I highly recommend this biography on Wilson. less

I enjoy a good presidential biography. Well detailed. Politics has not changed in 100 years.
