Apparatus Infernum
review 1: The second book in the series Apparatus Infernum by A. A. Aguirre was not an improvement over the first. I had trouble connecting with the characters, and whenever they were in danger or feeling bad I couldn't bring myself to care. Mikani and Ritsuko's "relationship" didn't really ring true for me, I personally felt like they were better off as really good friends and partners. Ritsuko's character in this installment starts off great even better than in the first book, then she seems to lose the qualities that made her so interesting to me and it is almost like she becomes a different person. I really liked Mikani in the first book, and he was alright in this book too, however I can't say the same for Saskia. I didn't really like her character in the first book, but in the... more second book her character ruined the book for me. Well, maybe not her just her character but her relationship with Mikani, and the way she treated him. For me one of the biggest reason why I gave this book one star was because of the side characters, I can't think of one I really liked. Another reason was that the main characters seemed to have lost the qualities that made me enjoy in the first place. Something I did enjoy in this book was the fantastic world building, if i was judging the book on that alone I would give this book three stars instead of one.
review 2: As much as I liked the first book, this second instalment never really made me feel much. It's telling that it took me five days to finish the book because when I'm well and truly hooked I can't put a book down. Sadly, that was not the case this time. It seemed like the book took a long time to get to the point and by the time it did I found I wasn't particularly interested anymore. The story is still told in third person, which meant that we got quite a bit of some secondary characters that I could've done without, frankly. I'm not giving up on the series yet (assuming there are more books to come) but I'm hoping it can recapture the something-something this book seemed to lack for me. I'm also hoping the authors cut back on the constant mental asides from the characters. I found that most annoying after awhile. less

I wish it was longer. It builds well then wraps so quickly it leaves you wanting more story.
Lol
Hmm..couple of structural issues with this one. But I do love the characters so.

The plot moved pretty slowly and I just couldn't get into this.
