review 1: I was drawn to this book by its title -- a family name which seemed quite intriguing. I would love to be able to give this book a 5 rating, because there are so many layers and it is beautifully written. The story line and setting were terrific, and were it not for the explicitly written love scenes I could have enjoyed this book tremendously. For those in my group, you better beware the love scenes are very detailed and intense. I had to fast forward through all of them because they were just too descriptive for my taste. I kept plodding through the parts I COULD read because as I said before the plot in very intriguing. For me it was a chore to have to skip through those intense love scenes and find the good that was there. Too bad for me and many others who reall... morey like a good clean book!
review 2: This is a romantic love story of love lost, found, and lost again, only to be found again. Finn met his true and life long love, Libby, the summer of his 16th year. He lost his virginity and his heart to this mysterious young woman. However, at the end of the summer she turned on him and acted as if she hated him. The next day she left for boarding school in Europe. Long after their break up and the loss of his family Finn still loved her but she would never allow him to communicate with her to find out what had happened to turn her against him. Finn finally married and started a life with his wife. The couple ended up being offered a job working for Libby's father at their estate. The couple had not had any children as Finn's wife didn't think they were in a financial position to do so. Then one day the police came to Finn's door to tell him that his wife and brother had been in a car accident. They were both killed when the car his brother was driving hit a guard rail and went over a cliff and into the ocean. Finn didn't think his wife even knew his brother. This is well written with good characterization and plenty of mystery as the author takes us from present day to the past to keep the story fresh and fast paced. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will look for more from this fine author. less
