review 1: For anyone that knows Moscow well all the street names will allow them to really envisage the setting for this story. For me, they were not necessary having only been there once for a couple of days. Told in the first person as an account to his fiancee of his time in post-communist Russia he paints a vivid picture of the winter snows and of course the bitter cold, of the undercurrents of deceit and corruption, and of his own failings A chilling, psychological tale that was deservedly short-listed for the Man Booker prize in 2011 It sent shivers down my spine!
