review 1: I think I like Adam Hamilton (I've also read his book "The Journey" centering on the Nativity story), because he reads the Bible like an English major. He makes me notice little details and look at things in the Bible I've read hundreds of times in a different light. He does a great job of making the characters of the Bible's decisions more understandable, even if you still don't agree with them. He also writes in a way that's thought-provoking and makes you assess your life without being overly preachy. Overall, this is a really compelling book about the last day of Christ and a great Advent read to really reflect on what Christ's life and suffering meant for humanity.
review 2: This is an excellent audiobook to help to really get to grips with the last day in
... more the life of Jesus. Its very comprehensive in biblical, cultural and historical detail which makes it an incredibly interesting audio. I've learnt so much from listening to this that I couldn't have got from just reading my bible and I am very grateful to Adam Hamilton, the author for going into so much detail. At times it was very uncomfortable as the author puts you on the spot to consider how you would behave in the same circumstances as some of the 'villains' in the time-line. This is good though as it stopped me in my tracks and really made me think about my behaviour both past and present. I discussed this quite a lot with my husband as I was listening so it definitely does make a good resource for small groups whether that be in a church or a friends setting. The narrator Lloyd James is very good and clear in his narration and the quality of this production is excellent. Thanks to christianaudio.com Reviewer's Program for this copy. less
