review 1: Curby by Adrian Del Valle is about a street sweeper who finds a baby abounded on a curb in a cardboard box. He takes it home and he and his girlfriend, who is dying of terminal cancer, decide to raise it as their own. Three years later, after the girlfriend dies, the nanny entrusted with Curby's care has a nicotine fit and goes to the store to get some cigarettes while Curby is napping. She leaves the door open, and then leaves, gets held up talking to friends, and when she returns he is gone… Shocker.I felt like this book lacked depth. You never really identified with the characters, the nanny disappeared from the book as soon as the dad comes home. She never checked with the police. She wasn't in the court during the trial. It just seamed there was a lot of unanswered ... morearea. It could have been so much better. 1.5 stars.
review 2: I enjoyed this book but, like so many others who have reviewed this book, I too wish there was more to the story. I was surprised to find at the end of the story an explanation by the author as to why the story was a bit choppy and areas of the lives of the main characters were cut short or left out to speed the story along. "The story was this way to offer my readers an introduction to the my books at an affordable price." It just seems like it has so much more potential to be a deeply compelling story if all the scenes were fully developed and not hurried though. The same goes for the characters. The authors offers the idea of maybe a sequel someday. Good book, good story idea just know it is written this way on purpose. less
