review 1: You'll likely enjoy this for either the a) Clowesian appropriation of various comic strip formats to illustrate the farcical preparation for "the big day" or b) the reassuring hindsight that yes, things get pretty crazy during the planning process, but at least that's all over now! In my case, it was both. If you're currently embarking on your own road to matrimony, I'd say to check this out to remind yourself to keep your cool and that everything will work out fine on its own...and in the heady food coma after your fifth cake-tasting expedition, you might even believe me.
review 2: A mini-comic chronicle of Adrian Tomine's wedding planning trials and tribulations that was diverting and laugh out loud funny. This was quite short (I finished it in about 20 minut
... morees) so it definitely doesn't have the depth of the Optic Nerve issues or of an actual graphic novel, but anyone who has been involved with ridiculous production of putting on a modern wedding would recognize a lot of the clever points that he makes. I think because I am such a fan of Tomine's body of work I didn't feel the lack of background and characterization (which is a valid critique) as much as some of the other reviewers. I also identify very much with a lot of the decisions that Sarah and Adrian made and with some of the cultural issues discussed, too. To me this was charming, droll and sweet. The perfect little read. less
