review 1: In the Defiance, Fenn and Peree try to convince their people to leave for Koolkuna, while factions within the two peoples try to prevent that.I did enjoy continuing along with Fenn and Peree, learning more about them and their world. Several characters really surprised me with the shades of gray. You question their motives, who can be trusted, and who is good and who is bad. Throughout the novel someone is working to sabotage relations between the Groundlings and Lofties. It is a bit of a whodunit, but by the time we find out who it is, it really doesn't matter much anymore. This novel was much darker than the first one. Fenn and Peree are in real danger throughout the whole novel, and they have a terrible time trying to convince others to come back to Koolkuna with them. ... moreSeveral characters die. Overall, it was just dark and depressing through most of the novel, but there is hope and light in the end. Not as much of a fun read as the first one, but still very well done and in the style of the first novel. Many series I've read and enjoyed in the past typically have some darker sequels (Hunger Games, City of Ember, etc.) so this is not to be unexpected.Overall I'm glad I read it and ot wrapped up the story nicely. Things are set for the third novel which will no doubt take place away from the two villages we've come to known so far. I'm really looking forward to that.NOTE: I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. review 2: 4 stars this was a good sequel. I didn't think it was possible that I would love Fennel en Peree anymore than I already did. They are so strong, and loyal to their people and each other. There's a scene in this book that absolutely broke my heart ooh why.Peree and Fennel are trying to convince their people that there's a village where life is better. But some off the Loftly's and groundlings don't want Peree and Fennel being together ready to be partners. In this book they make some allies but have more enemy's that do anything to stop them from leaving.Ooh and be prepared this book ends with a major cliffie. less
