review 1: I read this because I was desperately in need of a good laugh. This, however, is a mediocre one, at best. I am not sure why I keep reading books by stand up comedians looking for a laugh. The books are never quite as funny as the stand up, even if you are listening to an audiobook and the author is actually reading it. It just does not translate in the same way. This book was no exception to that.This book is told in a series of short stories of Tyler’s life, all of which are mishaps of some sort. There is a funny one here and there, but they mostly get tired and too similar after a while. There is a moral of each story that probably takes a little bit away from the funny of each. It may have been better to just let the reader process the stories and consequences on thei... morer own.I almost paid money for this book becuase I was that desperate for a laugh. Thankfully, my library had it, and I did not have to pay a dime. I would have regretted doing so.
review 2: I kinda hate rating this so low because I absolutely love Aisha Tyler - seriously, if you're into podcasts, hers (Girl on Guy) is one of my favorites and I'd highly recommend it. But this book just didn't quite convey the open, vulnerable side of Aisha that makes her so relatable in the podcast and in her stand-up. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy this book and I think anyone looking for a light, comedic read will also enjoy it but it just didn't have anything extra. I certainly wasn't hanging off every word or rushing home from work to get back to her stories. But it was entertaining and I don't regret getting it at all - just doesn't hold a special place in my (heart) bookshelf. less
