review 1: This story starts with an interesting premise, and leads you on a wild ride that never lets up. Two cops, one Canadian, one American, each of them good at what they do, and stubborn about accepting anyone's advice (never mind another cop's), have to deal with a mysterious series of murders and a drug cartel – just for starters. And all of that in the middle of Texas – what could be hotter?Canadian detective Kieran Fox, as good as he is at going undercover and getting criminals convicted, is not as clever about making choices in his personal life. Falling for the wrong guy almost cost him his career, and he has just begun to lick his wounds when the next case comes along: this one abroad, in the US. He doesn't want to go, but he can't really stay, so he decides to jump ... moreinto the assignment offered by a small town in Texas. He's got nothing better to do, right?Jubilee Mason has his personal life under control (read: he has none, since he is deeply in the closet), but his professional life is a different matter. He is trying to deal with a gang of murdering drug dealers, or drugged murderers, possibly both, and could use the help. Of course, he cannot admit that and anyway, what does a Canadian know about US law?And let's not forget the great cast of supporting characters, some hilarious, some utterly scary (I mean, a hungry alligator as a pet?), and some cute kids. Between them and the brilliant banter that keeps Kieran and Jubilee busy when they're not working, and sometimes when they are, this is a very entertaining book. It is also full of sexual tension, but the men take their time, which I really liked.If you're looking for a hot new story with some unique characters who just love to hate working together, a great mystery to solve, and some gruesome reality checks when the bad guys do their thing, then give this book a try. And the best news? This is only the first volume in a new series. From what I can see, we will be able to follow some more adventures of these two intrepid cops for quite a while to come. review 2: I'm glad there are more books in this series, cause I'm not done with these guys. I found the story slightly confusing in the very beginning, but the guys quickly started to grow on me. Yes even Dillon lol. It's hard to get my head around the extreme small country town that this is set in, but it's well enough described that I'm getting a pretty good mental picture...not a necessarily flattering one lol, but that's not necessary for the book.Kieran and Jubilee are seriously sexy... and together they make a great team. Bring the next one on! less
