review 1: This book takes place in two different times-1812 and 2010. The author rotates between these times with each chapter. I picked this up because of its reference to genealogy and the supernatural. Neither are super prevalent in this novel. The general story contains reference and family history background but the stories themselves are more interesting without getting into the connection between past and present. I enjoyed Anna's story taking place in 1812. The Haunting title probably wasn't the most appropriate choice...it doesn't really fit in with the overall story. In fact, the elements of the supernatural/haunting are really a very small element.
review 2: I really liked this book. It is set on my door step in the beautiful county of Hampshire. So many
... moreof the places and their names were everyday words to me. Alan wove a lovely novel through two timespans which joined together at the very end. He used his vast knowledge of nature and gardening to enhance the descriptions and bring them alive. The storyline kept me enthralled, I do love a happy ending! less

An easy quick read with a positive ending, ideal to read in between more challenging books.

Story was good just flicking between the two times was a little tedious at times
