review 1: Bird Barrett has to make some tough decisions when an anticipated recording contract for her family bluegrass band doesn't turn out quite as expected. Although this book takes place in the country/bluegrass music world, it paints a fascinating picture of the phenomenon of instant celebrity that could apply in any field, and in particular the challenges of being a famous teen. Bird and her family are complex characters with a slightly dark past, but the story is upbeat and light enough for the most sensitive teen readers. Thoroughly enjoyable even if you're not a country music fan, and more so if you are.
review 2: Sixteen year old Bird Barrett travels the country performing with her family’s country/bluegrass band playing the fiddle and singing backup. She i
... mores discovered while singing lead for her sick father and is propelled into the life of a recording artist. As Bird grapples with her emerging fame, she must learn the rules of the publicity game and how to hold onto the relationships that she hold dear. As a character, Bird is a realistic and wholesome sixteen year old who really strives to make good decisions. I cringed at times when she had to sacrifice some of herself for the sake of her studio and I look forward to reading about how she handles it all in future books. This is a good young adult book that could be read by younger readers without qualms but is enjoyable for any age. I received this book from the LibraryThing Early Reviewers Giveaway. less

A good "Clean" teen read. For lovers of country music, and coming of age stories.
