review 1: This is story 9.5 in the Guardians of Eternity series and it was included at the back of my MMPB edition of book 10 Darkness Avenged. It's a nice story about Levet and also some followup on a character introduced back in book 8, Valla a nymph, with her new mate Elijah who's the vampire clan chief of Paris. If you get the same edition then read Levet's story first before you read Darkness Avenged. There aren't any spoilers but they are out of order if you read it after the main novel.
review 2: Levet has been a cute and humorous character in the series from the beginning. He plays comic relief with his suave French manners, he annoys every male he comes in contact with when their females fawn all over the cute miniature sized gargoyle, but he is also loyal a
... morend fiercesome to help fight evil. This was his story finally. Levet is the hero when he returns home determined to confront his past.Upon reaching Paris, Levet is confronted by his sister and cousin who would have killed him if not for the interference of a lovely yet scarred nymph. Levet sees the yearning in the eyes of Elijah the vampire clan chief who cares for Valla the Nymph, but she just sees it as protection and pity so he does a bit of cupid work before heading out to take on the deepest pain from his past.Levet takes on his mother, the gargoyle leader, and makes her see him. He wants restoration to his place in the Gargoyle Guild and he dreams of acceptance by his family. Maybe he'll get one of the two before someone kills him. This was a quick novella and yet it was still able to offer two quick storylines: Levet's restoration and Elijah and Valla's romance. I loved seeing another couple come together, but I confess that Levet's return home to confront his mother offered more of an engaging plot for me. I was rooting for him all the way as he forced her to acknowledge that he he had been tossed out of his home and out of the guild, but he had done the work of a courageous hero.Quick, but satisfying. Fans of the series will definitely enjoy it. less
