review 1: Having heard a lot about how good Ali Smith is, I was pleased to find second-hand copies of this book and The Accidental. I love short stories so read this first.How disappointing.I found the writing very self consciously clever and felt totally uninvolved. Perhaps I'm just not clever enough for her writing.On to The Accidental - maybe I'll be able to get into a novel.
review 2: I want to say that it was OK but really I just didn't like it. Girl Meets Boy was the first book by Ali Smith that I'd ever read and I loved that, so, I thought I might like this too but it is just too quirky. Normally I love imaginative even ridiculous stuff... I think I understand it now though - its all about change and how just when you get comfortable and think you know something o... morer someone it goes and changes on you - that is a good analogy for this book actually, which I just found annoying. It's clever and poetic and has Smith's unique casual writing style but this one just wasn't for me. less
