review 1: Definitely a good preview of what is to come in the series, but way, way, way too short. I know it was a preview or starter to the series, but the point of that is to draw me into the characters and make me want to read more. I do want to read more because I think the story could get very interesting. However, I don't want to read more if each portion of the story is this short because I just can't really connect with the characters in such a short amount of time. In order to really connect with a character, I need to learn something about who they are and I just didn't get that here for the most part. Yes, we learned about the Rakshasa in a very small way, but that was pretty much it. We still don't know much of anything about who Libby or Ishan are as far as person... moreality goes. I needed more detail and insight to draw me into the characters. This short story was definitely well written though and I do think the series has potential.
review 2: The synopsis begins with the narrator, Libby, complaining about everyone calling her Libby the Loser behind her back.Actually, the only one constantly referring to Libby as a loser is herself. This book (if you can call it that - the page-count was 30 or 40 pages, which I don't think counts as a novel) was supposed to have a HINT of sensuality. It actually consisted of about 20 pages of meaningless sex and 5 pages of pondering said meaningless sex. There was also 5 pages of strangeness, 5 pages of talking and 5 pages of feeling like a loser. That's what this book was.I gotta admit, having seen the absolutely stunning cover, I expected more than just meaningless sex and a stupid chick feeling like an insignificant loser all the time. I've been there, and most authors managed to make me actually believe the heroines sentiments. This was just bad and hardly fleshed out. I'd like the author to go back to her manuscript, triple the page count and make it interesting and believable. less
