review 1: 3 stars - average, i liked it enough but it wasnt anything special..in fact i had this wierd sense of deja vu the whole time i was reading, i have a feeling that i may have read this book ages ago - well skimmed maybe. because the glass scence at the end, the scene with finn, ballard, and the silver knuckle dusters and one or two other moments felt as though i have read them before. maybe i have, its just that the rest of the book wasnt really that familiar i just had that feeling with a few scenes. and now im not so sure. i think i must have read it before, ages ago when i was really tired and was more skimming than reading. it did bug me but ive tried to overlook that in my rating as its my own fault i never marked it as 'read' or read it properly enough to actually know... more what was going on! it just isnt like me to forget that much of a book..anyway, ill start off with faye. i really enjoyed her, she was strong, brave, smart - stopping to think usually before diving headfirst into something, and she was very kind. overall she was pretty likeable and only made a couple of silly decisions.Finn. he was great, of course who wouldnt like him he fits that mould that is so common in ya, and even though its common it is equally addictive each time! so there wasnt much to fault him on really, and he genuinely seemed really nice unlike the typical jerk who turns out nicer; it was good/refreshing to skip the jerkish stage of the mould. i did however think he seem a bit too...young for his years. i just felt he could have been a bit wiser, more brooding, more knowledgable or something to reflect his long past. it didnt quite fit to me with his background.now the best friend liz, she wasnt so best-friend-like in places, particularly in the first half of the book. she got so cut over when her best friend is talking to a boy she likes. she blows it way out of proportion. like honestly, get over it. who have you known longer? seriously it was so unrealalistic. the author is trying to convince me that faye and liz are super good friends, the whole BFFLS thing. etc etc. but liz at several points acts completely ridiculously over this stupid guy. for no reason. as in nothing to back her up with. just bam. overreaction of the century. and she is just so materialistic at times. wake up woman, theres people dying out there (well one person and a possible other). and btw no one really was too fazed by a death and missing person. -.- wow. so yes i clearly had a couple of problems with this book but i also enjoyed it for it was engaging and i lost a couple of hours extra sleep over it by staying up later to read. the characters for the most part were good and intersting.this book is definitely not anything amazing, but its not bad either and i am glad i read it. it deserves 3 stars nothing more nothing less... well maybe like 2.8 if i was being specific.i recommend if youre interested and looking for some younger ya. its a good way to pass the time but as ive mentionned, nothing special.
review 2: If I'm to be honest, I read a few pages and got bored, so I abandoned the book. Then, a few months later, I found myself bookless and thought I'd give this book another try. Found it much, much more better the second time around.The book started off slow and was easy to get into and any confusion I had was kind of cleared up for me. Later on in the book it began to get incredibly interesting and I ended up falling in love with it completely. I was sad when it ended, and to be honest pretty sad with the ending overall, but this book is great. Strongly recommend people give this book a try. (: less
