review 1: Betsey leaves her job in London after a big argument with the supervisor of the company she works with. Betsey worked in the typing pool but wants to make more of herelf. Betsey has very little funds but she is off to a seaside town to see if she can get a job, no reference and no money. Betsey is after the job as a tour manager for the Pier and Pleasure company. Betsey has to fight her way with everyone to prove she can actually do the job. Mr. Jones believes in Betsey and Betey turns our to be a fighter and willing to work hard for the job.

... moreeftly balances her modern aspirations with the social mores of the era. That said, I had difficulty getting into the plot or caring about the romance angle. Admittedly, I read this during a business trip and during an insanely stressful time work/juggling mom wise so I'm sure that colored my view of the plot itself. I really liked Betsey, though. A fun, fun character. less
