review 1: This is a story about a pencil that draws characters which are able to interact with one another. They’re brought to life by charming child-like pencil drawings which are likely to inspire children to try out their own drawing skills. The characters become more and more demanding, insisting that the pencil draws ever more objects for them to play with. Eventually the pencil hits on the creative solution of drawing some assistance in the shape of a paint brush called Kitty and a pair of rubbers called Ronald and Rodney. The naughty antics of this book’s characters are sure to excite and enthral children aged 5-7 years. And they might just inspire some playful artistic endeavours along the way.
review 2: This is the story of a lonely pencil who creates a who
... morele world around him, including a boy, a dog, a cat, crazy hats and then a paintbrush to add colour to the world. He then draws a rubber, which creates chaos by rubbing everything out. Just before everything is gone the pencil manages to draw another rubber and they two rubbers delete each other, leaving the pencil free to start creating a new world with a boy, a dog, a cat and more crazy hats! This was read to my Year 3 class by the Librarian on a library visit and they really enjoyed it. I can also see it being used successfully in the classroom to prompt a discussion around art, drawing and colours. less
