review 1: I really admire Jade. Really admire Jade. I admire her strength and her independence. I like how she says "No" to Garrett and and how she is careful in everything she does. And I love how she says whats on her mind and is not afraid to insult Garrett! Thats one of the many great things about this book. Jade's characterization is really good and you can see how her circumstances have affected her and moulded her into the person she is. I feel like I can understand her and that is really important to me because there needs to be that thing between the reader and the character. You need to like and respect the character enough to read their story. I more than liked Jade, I totally loved her!Another thing that was totally cool was how Jade and Garrett's relationship develope... mored. It was slow but steady. I liked how they created traditions (Al's Pancakes!), talked and did stuff together. I mean the chemistry and attraction was totally obvious but they went slow, trying to get to know each other better before actually kissing and all that. Garrett was a total sweetheart. He was kind, sweet and manfully bore all of Jade's insults (she insulted him all the time!). He did not push her but gave her time to learn to trust him which was really nice. And he was not like a perfect prince or something you know. Like he too has a whole set of problems to deal with, so its not like his life is perfect either.I think that is the best part of this series. Its just really real, you know? Ok, so not original but Jade and Garrett are from completely opposite backgrounds and face so many problems in their lives and more than that, there is a large number of obstacles between them which could prevent them from having a relationship. They have to fight, really fight to have a relationship, to be together. They have to learn to trust each other, to lean on each other, to make sacrifices and to overcome their pasts, so that they can have a good shot at a future together. And its from both sides. Its not like only Garrett helps Jade to fight her problems but it works the other way too when Jade fights for Garrett and for their love (later in the series). And I guess, this is what made me root for Jade and Garrett too. P.S. I totally love the mystery component in the books too.
review 2: I have this book 2 stars because I absolutely hate Jade. She is a controlling bitch, who thinks only of herself. Her constant flip outs about a can of beer were ridiculous. it's the case of "I've had a shitty childhood so I can now be a shit to everyone who didn't have it that bad" poor little her, everyone else is a spoiled brat. Ugh. I'm considering reading the second book just to see how much more stupid can she get. less
