review 1: Really enjoyed this book! Lots of rich friendships, small town New England girl Rachel, a 20-something trying/struggling to make her own way in New York in the publishing world. Romance germinates when Rachel accidentally stumbles into the wrong party, an apartment full of professional football players and their hangers on...Rachel is a feisty, determined girl, semi-feminist, ends up playing poker with the boys after having to go back the next day to retrieve a lost cashmere scarf, and particularly bonds over mutual Jewishness with sweet Rookie Abe...they start to get together for Shabbat observances and form a sweet friendship. Though the focus is more on her bonding with the boys, the romance with quarterback golden boy Ryan is gradual...and very naturally written. Rache... morel has judgmental opinions about "dumb jocks" and she and Ryan start out with a combative acquaintanceship...especially given their rather "memorable" first encounter at the party the first night...it's fun to read as they get from that point to love. Very rich supporting cast of family, high-school friends and enemies that left an impact, and the world of professional football. Fun, quick, smart read. Nice world to inhabit.
review 2: Really liked the meet-cute and then the whole poker thing; the heroine's sassiness; their seemingly complete contrast as a couple.Did not like Ryan Carter as a book boyfriend, nor the lack of demonstrated progression in their relationship; her continued lack of interest in his career.Author did a good job of telling us why they liked each other (he's intelligent, not a jock; she's smart and funny, etc.) but I wanted to see more of that; especially on Ryan's side. less

FYI...This book was over 600 pages on my Nook, so I don't know why it's listed as only being 200ish.

This book was good. Not the best I have ever read, but overall very good. I would recommend it.
