review 1: I don't know if I have the right amount of words to describe how much I truly loved this book. I felt every ounce of this book, and I loved every piece of this phenomenally written book. This book is reason number 1 of why I read books. What this book made me feel, what this book made me think, and what this book took me through is nothing short of exceptional. I feel in love with the dynamic characters Aly Martinez created in Changing Course, and one of those characters was Caleb Jones. Boy does that man know how to make a lady swoon. Literally. Stolen Course is a deeply emotional book that just had me seriously connected to all of the emotion and pain and anguish and healing that takes place over the course of this outstanding book. This book made me feel so much, and I c... moreant say enough how truly powerful it is to read a book and feel so much for the story and its characters. Books like Stolen Course with its outstanding writing, wonderfully developed story, and wholly unique characters filled to the brim with varied and thoughtfully crafted emotion are few and far between, but that just increases the exceptionality of this book. Stolen Course is about Caleb. Years ago Caleb lost the love of his life in a moment that shattered everything. He spends everyday still reeling from that moment. That moment he lost his love changed it all. That's the moment he lost his love, and its the same exact moment he started hating Sarah Erikson. Caleb was a beyond outstanding character to read. I felt for him so freaking much. I wanted to reach in and make it all better for him because of all that he experiences. That man feels with every ounce he has, and he isn't afraid to put it on the line. Caleb also happens to have a crap ton of baggage from his past that he's still currently dealing with. This book is Caleb finally dealing with that baggage and his past. This is his book, and he will blow you away. This book also happens to be about Emma. She is a sassy southern firecracker who is the first girl in years to give Caleb hope from the pain and darkness he constantly feels. She is everything that he needs and more. Emma is beyond perfect for him, and she brings out the best in him, and in turn he brings out something wonderful in her. Emma is no wilting flower and she pushes herself and Caleb in the best possible ways in an attempt to get them both where they so rightfully deserve to be. They really have the makings of a wonderful love story....There's only one problem: Emma is Sarah Erikson's sister. She is related to the person who shattered Caleb's world. And she's still fighting for the sister she lost all those years ago. As you can tell this causes a bit of drama for these two, but this is what makes their story. Reading these two try to solve and overcome the real problems they face was nothing short of superb. You get to experience both of their feelings from beginning to end, and you will understand why they both feel the way that they do. Emma and Caleb are both some seriously passionate people, and that shines through in spades throughout this entire book. Stolen Course is very much a book about love and hate and finding the balance of those two intense and very passionate feelings. Caleb hates Sarah. Emma hates that Caleb hates Sarah. Emma loves her sister, but she hates what has come to be. The war of love and hate weaves its way breathtakingly throughout this book and these characters, and it all explodes with Caleb and Emma's relationship. That war of love and hate is the crux to their problems and their saving grace all wrapped into one. Their relationship together as they try to figure it all out will keep you on your toes, and just when you think you've figured it all out, you'll realize you're back at square 1 and you've got to figure it all out again. But you will love and adore that. Their chemistry and connection will have you smiling, and have your heart melting for them. You're also going to want to fight like all get out for these two. Even in their darkest and most pain filled moments together, you will still want to fight like hell for them. This book is chalk full of moments that will leave you speechless, moments that'll take your breath away, moments that'll make your cheeks blush, and moments that will have you slinging curse words at your kindle. Stolen Course gives you the amazing opportunity to understand a lot of the backstory of that fateful night that changed everything for Caleb, Emma, Sarah, Brett, Jesse, and everyone else. This book allows you to really get what happened, and how things came to be. It also gives you some seriously jaw dropping moments that will change everything you think you knew about this story. Those moments make this book all the more fantastic.I have to say one of the biggest things I loved about this story, besides getting to read and love Caleb and Emma, was reading and understanding more about Sarah. That girl is way rough around the edges and she puts the B in bitch, but this book just helped me get her more. Even in the moments that made me want to yell and scream at her, I got her, and even more I FELT FOR HER. This book is about a lot of things. It's about the past, and attempting to move on even when you don't think you can move a single inch. It's about healing and forgiveness from all the pain and anguish you feel. It's about seeing and truly experiencing all that love has to offer. It's about accepting the flaws we have, and realizing those flaws can really make for something exceptional. It's about feeling all of it, even when you don't want to, because those feelings mean that you are alive. It's also just about realizing that there are moments that define your life one way or another, yet it's up to you to decide what that definition is. I honestly could go on and on about this book. It is exceptional, and fantastic, and powerful, and so emotional, and so much of everything else. This book had me loving this series and its characters more than I thought possible. (Because I was so in love with all of them after reading Changing Course!)I don't have enough positive words for this book, or this authors beyond fantastic writing, or the exceptional story and characters she created. But do yourself a favor and experience this series for yourself. You will not be sorry and in the end you'll realize right along with me that books like this one that make you feel and breathe in the book and characters and experience it all, is why you read.
review 2: 5 starI was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, betrayal, tragedy, love, forgiveness, pain, and heartbreak. Aly will make sure to pull all your emotions out so be prepared. You will need some tissues…..This series is stand alones books but I would recommend reading them in order:Changing Course (Wrecked and Ruined, #1)Stolen Course (Wrecked and Ruined, #2)This is Caleb’s story. Caleb is a broken man. He blames one person for him pain and has often wished her dead. He believes with everything in him that Sarah was driving the car that killed the woman he loves. Does not matter that Sarah is also grieving the loss she should just be dead as far as he is concerned. Emma believes he sister was not responsible. She will fight Caleb to see that Sarah is just as broken as he is….. This is not a sweet love story. This is a gut wrenching, high drama, and pain filled story of forgiveness and healing. Can Emma and Caleb move pass the pain and learn to love? This story is full of twists and turns that will have you reeling. When more information comes out about what really happened back then you will be shocked!!! I totally didn’t see it coming…..I loved Caleb. He was broken but turned out to be a really great guy would loves really deeply. There were times you want to smack him (really hard with a brick) but don’t worry he will turn out great in the end. Loved that fact that the author took you back and forth so you really got to understand the characters and there frame of mind throughout the story. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next one. less
