Někdy mě až překvapilo, co autorka napsala, a pár zvratů mě doopravdy potěšilo. Raby nikoho nešetřila, nebyla příliš útlocitná a to mě v knihách vždycky baví.Celkem dobře propracované pozadí, a líbil se mi hlavní hrdina (ehm), charismatický a přece trochu jiný, než o kterých čtu normálně, i když nedokážu říct proč. A hrdinka... měla pár much, ale byla to postava, s kterou se dalo žít. :))
review 2: I had to start this book two times, not en
... moretirely certain why--because the premise of Assassin's Gambit is just my sort of cliche-breaking, plot-twist catnip. Which is why I didn't get how I made it through the first third and just didn't like it.But I wasn't willing to let this one go and have it end up like Moth & Spark. So I started it again and made sure to read when I wasn't super exhausted, and this time, I did enjoy the book more.Lucien was a great hero. He was smart and quick and his devotion to Vitala, even after he discovers her secrets, is both sweet and sexy. I thought it was definitely different that he didn't fly off the handle when he discovered she was part of the group that killed his older brothers and ended up maiming his leg. In a lot of stories this alone would have made up the main conflict of the book--nevermind that when the story opens and Lucien meets Vitala for the first time, she's been in training for seven years to seduce and kill him.But Lucien is refreshingly pragmatic. He's not a huge fan of the concept, naturally, but he understands why she was going to do it, and why she was part of the circle, and without even telling her, sets out to create a home for her.Vitala is a slightly more thorny issue. I read a review of this book that gave it a low grade because the reviewer felt like there wasn't a good reason for Vitala to decide so quickly she wasn't going to kill Lucien. That bothered me too, but not as much as it did the other reviewer. I think I was more able to buy into Vitala's mission being compromised so early because so few have ever shown her kindness. She was ridiculed for her ethnic heritage and even though she was basically raised in the rogue group, their relationship is pure business. Lucien is kind to her, attentive and seems to not only value her for her beauty but for her quick and agile mind. I guess I loved Lucien so much that I was willing to suspend a little disbelief that Vitala would fall for him so quickly.Vitala also behaves fairly rashly at the end of the book but since she had the training to do what she attempts, I gave her a pass there as well.Pace was good, writing was strong, and I am definitely more interested in reading more of this series. less

An interesting story that is not like all the other cookie cutter romance novels.

i couldn't get into the story. It seems the writing style didn't match with me.
